Dry Shampoo Difficultly Level - Easy
Im a greasy Gal, I'm not ashamed to admit it. I get 2 days out of my hair before it needs washing again, its always been that way.
I used to be a big user of Dry Shampoo and loved it, so much so I actually had my own brand of shampoo called Hippy Club Invisible Dry Shampoo way back, circa 2012. This was well before I gave a shit about the environment, and chemicals we use in our industry.
Dry shampoo is possibly one of the best loved hair products on the world hair market. It’s like a great disguise artist for people with busy lives. It creates volume, hides roots, freshens hair and most importantly - absorbs sebum.
Dry shampoo is one of the first products I created, naturally and tested it out in Glastonbury Festival. Adding a little bit before the grease comes is key to its success and then a little bit more daily if needed. I went 6 days without washing my hair
For a little bit of context and I don’t mean to scare the living daylights out of you, but I feel I must tell you a few facts about dry shampoo that I know to be true - because I went through the development process with the manufacturers.
70% of the UK’s Dry Shampoo is made in one factory, same ingredients just a different label and scent.
Whilst products say ‘not tested on animals’ at some point in time before the ban on animal testing in UK all of the ingredients that make up a formula will have once been tested on an animal. This applies to all individual cosmetic ingredients that were around in 1998.
Benzene - a known carcinogen, can be found in lots of brands and listed, in most, as the first ingredient, meaning it is the main ingredient in most products.
Fragrance or Parfum is listed on most bottles. This alone can have up to 50 chemical ingredients in that don’t need to be named, scary.
Synthetic Fragrances are crafted with chemicals that can disrupt hormones.
So What Can You Do?
YOU are in charge of your own body, it’s YOU who should decide what you are being exposed to, not the fat cats behind the brands at the top!
I’m going to teach you how to give them a big Fu*k Off by not buying their crap and how you can make your own.
So without further ado - let me introduce
‘Into Dust’
You Will Need 2 ingredients
Rhassoul Clay - which is clay from the Atlas Mountains. It’s great at holding and hiding sebum. High in mineral content like magnesium which most of us lack in our bodies.
Organic Arrowroot - which gives the hair a silky soft smoothness and contains potassium, iron and vitamin B.
Take this basic recipe , embrace it, add in your own ingredients if you wish to, go on experiment, you will never look back.
Amounts
• 50g Rhassoul Clay
• 50g Arrowroot Powder
What You Need
• 1 x empty clean jar with an airtight lid (be kind to the planet and reuse an old jar). must be big enough to hold 100g of ingredients so we normally opt for 120 ml jar to give it room to shake
1 x Clean Short Hair Blusher Brush (this is for us to use as an applicator)
How To Make
Step 1 - Pour the 50g of the Rhassoul Clay and the 50g of Arrowroot Powder into your jar.
Step 2 - Put the lid on and give your ingredients a good shake.
How To Use
Using your clean brush apply your dry shampoo to the roots of your hair and work the product in by patting or rubbing with your brush until the product disappears. Prevention is better than cure. Apply your dry shampoo a day before your hair normally gets greasy.
